Our wines

The Château de L’Estang enjoys a privileged location at the foot of Sancerre, a
picturesque town characterised by the prestigious vineyards of this AOC region –
among which are nestled the Lestang 1573 vines. In 2013, when Rémy Graillot
purchased this luxurious property, he decided to convert the dovecote and
conservatory into a winery: this is where the Lestang 1573 L’Illustre voyageur and
Tradition wines are produced.

Spanning three hectares, the vines are planted in strict compliance with the Sancerre
AOC regulations. They enjoy meticulous maintenance based on low-carbon
agroecological practices, thus preserving the wealth of this exceptional environment.

LESTANG 1573 • L’Illustre Voyageur 2021

Produced in very small quantities, L’Illustre Voyageur is a wine that gives full expression to the oldest sauvignon blanc vines on the estate, which are
distinguished by their incredibly aromatic grapes.

A fine wine that nurtures the fruit

The choicest grape clusters are carefully harvested and gently pressed in our
pneumatic press to preserve the fruit’s natural character. The juices are then aged in
demi-muid barrels so that the natural yeasts can set off the process of alcoholic
fermentation.

The wine rests on the lees in these old oak barrels for a full year, with regular stirring,
after which it is bottled and stored another year before being marketed.

An elegant wine

This process creates a wine that exudes great elegance and captures the
magnificent beauty of this Sancerre estate. The nose reveals a bewitching, mineral
complexity, which expresses the vineyard’s 100% flint soil. Notes of elderberry offer
a subtle opening, with fuller flavours developing on the palate. Bright and fresh
Granny Smith apple aromas blend beautifully with a hint of verbena, striking a
perfect balance. A slightly bitter finish offers good length on the palate.

LESTANG 1573 • TRADITION 2021

The alcoholic fermentation of Tradition 2021 begins in stainless steel tanks, with
neutral yeasts preserving the precious liquid’s integrity.

A wine distinguished by the finest aromas

The wine remains in the stainless-steel tanks for six months to mature on the lees,
which are stirred up regularly to enrich the aromatic complexity. This is followed by a
second six-month period in the same tanks.
The wine is bottled after a full year and carefully stored for a further year to achieve
optimum stability.

A subtle balance between citrus and peach

On tasting this cuvée, the nose unfurls citrus aromas with a subtle mineral undertone
that reveals a gun flint character.
On the palate, the voluptuous flavour of white-fleshed fruits is perfectly balanced by
a remarkable acidity, creating a beautiful, long finish.
